Oh, Illamasqua!

Are you familiar with Illamsaqua?

Well, for those of you who aren’t, they’re a cult British beauty brand that you should definitely get to know! Influenced by the ‘dark and illicit 1920’s club scene’, Illamsaqua is make up for the brave, the bold and the confident. It embraces the alternative and encourages those to get in touch with their inner wild side. It’s ‘make up for your alter ego’.

They’re a relatively young brand (starting up in 1998) and Illamasqua has only just launched their Australian stores, in both Melbourne and Sydney. Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend their opening at the refurbished cosmetics hall at Myer Melbourne (which looks spectacular by the way – good job Myer!). With the most amazing array of colours on offer, they are bound to have something you’re looking for.

Nail polishes

Eye shadows

Everything else.

Illamasqua is by no means limited to bold eye shadows and lipsticks however, they also have a great selection of light liquid foundations, rich liquid foundations that provide more coverage, pressed powders, illuminating powders, powder blushes, creme blushes, bronzers, primers, concealers oh the list goes on and on! And in an effort to cater for all needs, (and this is the first I’ve seen) they also have a white foundation for those with paler skin. Win!

One thing that stood out to me about Illamasqua is that unlike many other cosmetic brands, who often only have maybe one generic blue eyeshadow, or a green nail polish, Illamasqua have numerous variations which provide greater choice and make it easier to suit an individuals needs.

As special guests at the launch, my fellow beauty bloggers and I were given an opportunity very few would pass up. Getting made over, Illamasqua style! So I got the gloriously talented Giselle to work her magic on my eyes, using their famed Pure Pigment Eye Shadow ($39) in Conquer, a highly pigmented, high shine metallic forest green shimmer that can be used on eyes, cheeks and brows. And on the lips was Melt, a warm gold shimmery nude lipstick ($39) topped off with their Sheer Lipgloss ($33) in Soul, a champagne nude.

What impressed me most about Illamasqua is that the majority of their products are all so highly pigmented and provide an intense vibrant colour, which ensures the brand stands out from the rest (as will you when wearing it, trust meeee!). Instead of having to build and build to get a decent hit of intense colour, you only need to use a little bit to go a very long way. Music to many a lady’s ear, I’m sure.

Definitely pay a visit to your nearest Illamasqua counter (exclusively through selected Myer stores), if at least just to experiment and perhaps, see yourself in a different light. Like these guys…
